January and February are months when ministers like to give sermons in a series, to probe into subjects a little deeper. This year I am going to be talking about literature. The book I would urge everyone to read is this year’s Syracuse Reads selection: Khaled Hosseini’s “The Kite Runner.” Other works from which references will be made are: “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” and “King Lear,” and Dante’s “Divine Comedy.” None of these are required reading, but for those who like to dig deeper, here is a way to do so. And for the truly ambitious, I will be making reference to the work of literary critic Northrop Frye. See you in church. |
