September was busy as I, the RE committee, and our guides, worked to get the RE program year off to a start. We had a very good guide training that included a short story telling workshop. Many thanks to Geoff Navias for coming in and presenting about story telling. Much of the curriculum that the guides will be using this year relies on telling stories in class so this seemed like a good way to start the year. We were also able to clean and reorganize downstairs. We had 60 children and youth in RE on our first Sunday. And we have started taking photos of our participants to be put up on a photo wall downstairs.Come down sometime and see all the shining faces! Our 7th and 8th graders will be in a Coming of Age class this year. We had 12 youth in that group on our first Sunday! We are excited about this group and they will spend the year exploring their faith. And if all goes well they will even get to go to Boston at the end of the year! Our Senior High group is starting to have conversations about the possibility of participating in a UUSC Just Works camp this summer. By doing this our Teenz would have the opportunity to go to an area that needs help and in a hands on effort help others and learn about the causes of injustice. The UUSC has a very good program for youth. We are hoping that this will take wings.Look for more information in upcoming newsletters and announcements. Also the children and youth of RE made pinwheels for of peace. They then “planted” them in front of our sign on September 21st, International Day for Peace. |
