In it a village is struck with famine and all the difficulties that go along with that. The leaders come to Buddha seeking help. None of the villagers are willing to help. Finally a small girl stands up and declares that she will end the famine by taking her empty bowl around and gleaning folks leftovers and redistributing them. She does exactly this and in the end the famine is gone. As part of their work with this story our children and youth decorated bowls. These bowls will be sold at the “Supriya’s bowl luncheon” on December 9th after service. There will be soup available to fill those very bowls with. And afterwards those people who have bought the bowl will be able to take them home. The money that is raised will go to support May Memorial's Homeless and Hungry Fund. December 2 we start our Seven weeks of Unity. This is a midwinter unit of RE that we celebrate here at May. Below is a chart of the principles we will be working with, themes of the different weeks and the stories that we will be using in chapel. Our different workshop classes will be focusing on MMUUS history, cooking, yoga, making greeting cards, making pine cone feeders, and one making miniature peace pole decorations. ~ Jennifer Hamlin-Navias, DRE |

Earlier in the year our religious education classes worked with the story “Supriya’s Bowl,” a tale from the Buddhist tradition.
